Building on the successful community-budgeting programs in 2011-2014, the goals for 2016 are to:
- Dramatically increase engagement in Hispanic- and Vietnamese-speaking communities through a series of specially targeted in-person Participatory Budgeting sessions.
- Substantially increase engagement in English-speaking communities with a larger in-person event of approximately 1,000 residents.
- Dramatically increase engagement across the city through a combination of facilitated and unfacilitated online forums, potentially targeting up to 50,000 residents participating online.
To support this initiative, the Collaboration Confab will offer two half-day workshops "Serious Games & Collaborative Techniques for Civic Engagement" to train participants to facilitate online and in-person forums using Budget Games and Common Ground for Action, a software platform based on the Kettering Foundation's deliberative discussion process.
